Bridgewater-Emery/Ethan Seahawks battled against the Elk Point-Jefferson Huskies Sept. 14 and came out on top with a victory of 26-10.
“We came out with a low energy level and our minds, I felt, were somewhere else, but as the game proceeded, we started getting our level of play going. It was a learning game, that’s for sure,” senior Sawyer Schultz said.
After the first quarter, both teams were scoreless. In the second quarter the Seahawks scored twice. Senior Jamin Arend scored both touchdowns, one being a 37 yard pass from senior Brady Hawkins. Both extra point kicks were good by Hawkins. EPJ kicked a field goal before half making the score 14-3 in favor of the Seahawks.
The third quarter, Arend managed to score another touchdown, but the PAT (point after touchdown) by Hawkins failed. During the fourth quarter, the Seahawks drove the ball down again and scored on a 2 yard run by junior Grant Andrews. Extra point attempt failed. EPJ scored once more before the end of the game making the final score 26-10.
“We know we didn’t play the best. We also know we need to have short-term memory loss and forget about that game, coming out hard against Flandreau,” Arend said.
Stats for the game consisted of Arend with three touchdowns and 180 yards rushing. Andrews pitched in a touchdown, 11 tackles and 23 yards rushing. Hawkins contributed 60 yards rushing and ten tackles. Senior Carter Dye racked up 15 tackles, while sophomore Rylee Schultz added seven.
“We didn’t play to the best of our ability, but we now know that we need to come ready to play each game like it’s the last. We can’t go into a game thinking we already have it in the bag,” junior Jonah Hofer said.
The win against EPJ left the Bridgewater-Emery/Ethan Seahawks with a 4-0 record.
