T-shirt Winning

By Joslyn Schrank on March 14, 2018
Junior Kristin Kotas from the Bridgewater-Emery high school has been chosen for her t-shirt design to represent the South Dakota FCCLA organization. Kristin has participated in this before but has fallen short. Finally, her hard work and dedication paid off!

“I entered the contest last year and did not win, so I was eager to try again this year,” Kotas said.

Kristin has always been one to design t-shirts. Kristin started designing t-shirts for the Bridgewater-Emery communities when she entered high school as part of her SAE project, a project for FFA that all members must do, along with her side job. Kristin has enjoyed designing t-shirts and other apparel for sports, fundraisers and school-related organizations.

“My Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE) for FFA is an Entrepreneurship project in where I produce t-shirts and apparel for schools, community events and organizations, and businesses. In my three years so far, I have grown to completing orders up to 100 miles away. I also focus on supporting American agriculture by offering American-made products,” Kotas said.

Kristin was selected as the designer for the South Dakota state FCCLA t-shirt for 2018. Students could vote for Kristin on Twitter and Instagram. With the help of the Bridgewater-Emery student body and staff, along with Kristin’s friends located around the state, Kristin could achieve her ultimate goal.

“What I did for my design was base it off the national FCCLA theme and add some of my own ideas. I really wanted to make it look professional yet fun,” Kotas said.

Since Kristin’s design was chosen to represent South Dakota’s FCCLA, her t-shirts are available for purchase for the FCCLA members across the state of South Dakota. Students can buy them to wear at the South Dakota state FCCLA conference. The top qualifiers in the state of South Dakota which move on to nationals in Georgia this summer, representing South Dakota will be wearing the t-shirt Kristin designed.
