Seahawks Dominate the Bulldogs
By Kylee Pollman and Haven Crawford on September 14, 2018
The Bridgewater-Emery/Ethan Seahawks played the Madison Bulldogs Sept. 7 in Bridgewater. The Seahawks ended the night pulling off their third straight win 21-0.
Before the game sets in, the night began with a tailgate meal as part of Sierra Wollmann’s senior experience. The meal consisted of Arby’s roast beef, chips, water and a cookie. Each meal cost six dollars, and all of the money will be donated to the daycare in Bridgewater, which is where Sierra works.
“I have worked at the daycare for a year now, and I really love and enjoy it,” Wollmann said.
The football game was covered by KSFY, KDLT, and KELO-TV, but KSFY also did an interview with Sierra about the tailgate.
“I was nervous to be televised, but it was a cool experience,” Wollmann added.
After the fans were fed, the game against Madison began. Coming into the game, Madison had won the last three Class 11A State Championships continuing an 18-game win streak.
The Seahawks played hard right from the start. In the first quarter on the Bulldogs’ first down, a bad snap went over the head of Madison’s punter to be blocked down to the Bulldogs’ eight-yard line. Jamin Arend scored a touchdown from four yards out, two plays later.
In the second quarter, junior Jonah Hofer intercepted a pass on defense that was driving to the Seahawks end zone from the 25-yard line. Later in the quarter, Madison pushed the Seahawks to punt the ball, and as Madison drove to the Seahawk’s 32-yard line, Madison fumbled the ball and BEE senior Carter Dye recovered it to end the first half 7-0 Seahawks.
The Bulldogs forced another punt on the Seahawks to open the third quarter, and from BEE’s 23-yard line, Madison pulled off three incomplete passes, in which they then tried for a 40-yard field goal that fell short. The Seahawks took back the ball and answered with an 80-yard drive and another touchdown for senior Jamin Arend.
Madison started off rough again in the fourth quarter with another bad snap on a punt. Soon enough, Jamin Arend ran in for another touchdown to eventually end the game 21-0 with the first Seahawk win against a Class 11A team since moving to 11-man football.
Overall, the BEE Seahawks played a tough defense, which put them ahead early in the game. They ended the night with a total of 274 yards. Brady Hawkins of Ethan and senior Carter Dye of B-E each had 12 tackles. Jamin Arend and junior Grant Andrews each had one and a half sacks for the game.
When asked about the game Arend responded, “ We prepared all week for what we knew was going to be a tough battle and we stepped up and took care of business. As a team we were one, when we made mistakes we made up for them. That’s how we need to play every game.”
To which Sawyer Schultz replies, “We talked about how in order to win we each needed each of us to do our part and I thought we each handle our positions very well.”
The Bridgewater-Emery/Ethan Seahawks traveled to Elk Point-Jefferson Sept. 14 last Friday, and they will soon play Flandreau in the homecoming game Sept. 21.
