Bridgewater-Emery/Ethan Seahawks upset the McCook Central Montrose Fighting Cougars 48-6 Friday, Oct. 5.
“We started off not playing our best football with getting two touchdowns getting called back,” senior Jevin Eddy said. “In the second quarter, we started doing the little things right and played as a team.”
During the first quarter, the Seahawks’ junior Brady Hawkins had a one-yard run, the kick was good making the score 7-0.
Throughout the second quarter, BEE held the Cougars to zero points while managing to score three touchdowns. Senior Jamin Arend caught a 19-yard pass from Hawkins, PAT by Hawkins was no good. Senior Sawyer Schultz then brought in a 74-yard pass from Hawkins adding a PAT. Junior Jonah Hofer ran into the end zone after a 16-yard pass from Hawkins. The score going into halftime was 28-0.
“We definitely made too many mistakes and penalties hurt us early in the game,” assistant coach Jared Anderson said. “As the game went on the offense went rolling and defense made some stops. Overall, the kids played pretty well.”
Starting off the second half, Arend ran back the kickoff for 80 yards, extra point kick by Hawkins was no good. Later in the third quarter the Cougars quarterback Raygen Randall ran for a seven-yard touchdown, extra point failed. The Seahawks answered back with a 38-yard run by Hawkins making the end of the third quarter score 40-6. BEE scored one more touchdown in the fourth quarter on a 76-yard interception by Arend. The two-point conversion was good by a pass from Hawkins to Schultz. The final score was 48-6 in favor of the Seahawks.
Hawkins led the Seahawks with 170 passing yards, two touchdowns and 21 tackles. Sawyer Schultz added 86 receiving yards on three catches with one touchdown. As a team, the Seahawks had 242 yards on 40 plays. Defensively junior Grant Andrews had 12 tackles, sophomore Rylee Schultz added 10 tackles while senior Carter Dye and Sawyer Schultz had nine.
The victory made the Seahawks’ record 6-1.
