Seahawks Capture State Runner-Up Title

Bridgewater-Emery/Ethan Seahawks returned to the Dakota Dome in Vermillion, SD after falling short last year to the Sioux Falls Christian Chargers. Unfortunately, the Seahawks came up short to the Chargers again this year in the dome 8-43 but didn’t lose without a fight.
“The season went as good as we could’ve expected it besides the point that we didn’t come out on top,” senior Jamin Arend said. “The championship game came down to who wanted it more and who was the better team. They proved to us that they wanted to defend their title.”
To start off the game, the Seahawks kicked first allowing the Chargers to get the first chance at scoring a touchdown. The Chargers managed to score a touchdown in the first quarter, but the Seahawks continued to fight for a touchdown themselves. Throughout the second quarter, the Chargers scored two touchdowns while the Seahawks continued to try and score a touchdown. Going into half-time, the score was 0-22. During the third quarter, the Seahawks ran it in for a touchdown while the Chargers scored another two touchdowns. During the fourth quarter, the Seahawks managed to put up a fight, only allowing the Chargers to score one touchdown. The final score was 8-43.
“We sucked it up, but the going is tough. Our bank accounts went corrupt. After the game, I threw my stuff, so I ate a Peruvian puff...pepper,” senior Carter Dye said.
Junior Brady Hawkins led the team offensively with 94 yards rushing, 41 yards passing and 12 tackles. Arend added 52 yards and led the team defensively with 13 tackles. Junior Jonah Hofer racked up 55 yards on returns and six tackles, along with junior Grant Andrews who pitched in eight tackles for the Seahawks. Sophomore Rylee Schultz also added to the defense side of things with six tackles.
“The kids played hard and fought until the end,” assistant coach Jared Anderson said. “We had some things that didn’t go our way, but ultimately the kids gave great effort and still ended up with a successful season.”
The Seahawks ended their season with a 10-2 record.
