Lindsey Weeldreyer

Sophomore Lindsey Weeldreyer is the only girl runner for the B-E Huskies’ cross-country team, but she does not let that affect her when it comes to competing. This year, she has competed in six races and placed in the top 20, four times. She recently set a personal record for the year in Parker with a 5k time of 22:35. She enjoys being part of the cross-country team for the running and making friends along the way.
“I love the camaraderie such as everyone cheering for each other and always saying good job when passing another. We all pray before the meet and that is something that is really neat and awesome to see and be a part of,” Lindsey said.
Lindsey has been running cross country since she was a 7th grader. She has competed and placed in many races. Lindsey has always enjoyed running and takes pleasure in striving for improvement. She runs about four miles on her own every day during the season and two or three miles every day in the summer.
“It is hard to stay motivated during the summer when running every day. Some summer days are scorching hot and the heat is definitely not something pleasant to run in but the training is worth it. You have to train during the summer, otherwise, you will start the season right back to where you were the year before,” Weeldreyer said.
She has advanced to the state cross country meet 2 years in a row, both her 7th and 8th grade year. She was unable to compete last year at regions due to her being sick, which resulted in her inability to qualify and compete at the state meet.
“Making it to state my first year was really surprising to both my coach and myself. I was trying something new, and I wasn’t expecting to do so well. It was a cool experience and I’m really hoping to compete at the state level again this year,” Lindsey said.
Lindsey’s impressive skills are not only as an athlete. While working hard to achieve goals as an athlete, she does the same in academics. The outcome of her hard work pays off both in and out of the classroom. Lindsey maintains a GPA of over 4.0 and is involved in many other extracurricular activities at Bridgewater-Emery.
Lindsey hopes to continue setting and achieving goals in cross country, academics, and other school activities throughout her remaining high school years.
