Huskies Take Tough Loss to Rival Freeman Flyers

By Kerrigan Schultz on September 14, 2018
The Flyers took down the Huskies in volleyball action on Tuesday, September 11 in three sets. All three sets were close and competitive. The Huskies were hopeful to win the match against a Cornbelt Conference team and region rival, but reacted to the loss knowing what areas needed to be improved. The Flyers swept the Huskies 25-21, 25-20, and 28-26.

“We played our most competitive game of the season versus Freeman. We eliminated any long runs and kept all three sets close. A few things could have gone our way and we had opportunities to win any of the sets. We need to work on finishing the offensive play and confidence,” said coach Mary Ernster.

Emily Miller led the Flyers with 17 kills, six digs and five blocks. Dayna Roth recorded 10 kills, six blocks and three aces while Josie Fuhrmann added 29 assists. For the Huskies, Sydney Hoffman and Haley Schultz both finished with six kills and four blocks. Sophia Potter had 11 assists. Kerrigan Schultz had two aces, three kills, six digs and eight assists. Joslyn Schrank finished with 14 digs and Katelyn Kotas with seven.

“I think we need to be more aggressive at the net and this game helped us know we can play with a good team. I look forward to the rest of the season and am hopeful we come out with a winning season,” said senior Katelyn Kotas.

On a positive note, the JH won all three matches followed by C team and JV victories. The Huskie hosted Viborg-Hurley on September 13 and Hanson on September 18.
