Huskies Sweep the Beavers
By Kerrigan Schultz on September 25, 2018
BE Huskies volleyball team defeated Hanson in three sets Tuesday, Sept. 18 in a Cornbelt Conference match. This was the first time since 2006 the Huskies defeated their rival Hanson.
“We played well against Hanson, but in my opinion, we can still play better. We came out knowing what needed to be done; however, we still need to continue to work on bringing energy out onto the court. We need to continue working on being smart with the ball. Overall, we are continuing to grow and learn from every game,” senior Joslyn Schrank said.
The Huskies started on a roll early in set one and won 25-17. Set two was a back and forth match until the Huskies scored four points in a row to win the set 25-21. The Huskies capped off the varsity match with a score of 25-22 in set three.
“It’s great, a couple of good confidence building games. We haven’t beat Hanson since I started here, so to get them twice is pretty fantastic,” head coach Mary Ernster said.
For BE, sophomore setter Kerrigan Schultz dished out 14 assists and had six digs, while junior setter Sophia Potter added 13 assists. Schrank had a team high 15 digs, while junior Haley Schulz added six kills and also six blocks.
For Hanson, senior Jacy Waldera had 16 assists and four digs, while senior Ellie Tuschen added 11 digs, seven kills, and three aces. Senior Megan Guericke also added a match high 20 digs for the Beaverettes.
The Huskies also won the JV and C matches.
The Huskies play Alcester-Hudson at Alcester Thursday, September 20. Junior high match will start at 4 p.m. followed by C, B, A.
