Huskies Just Surpass KWL Wildkats

Bridgewater-Emery girls slipped past the Kimball- White Lake Wildkats on Tuesday, Jan. 15 in Kimball. The Huskies won with a score of 55-53.
The Huskies battled point for point throughout the whole game. At the end of the first quarter, the Huskies were leading the Wildkats 11-8. Beginning the second quarter, the Wildkats came on and were being more aggressive and getting a lot of second chances. Going into half time KWL led with a score of 30-26 and outscored the Huskies in the second quarter 22-15.
“I thought the game was good for us because we had to make sure we were making smart plays in order to win the game,” junior Kennedee Weber said. “I think defensively we could have played better if we would have talked to each other more, but overall, I think the game made us a stronger team.”
Coming out in the third quarter the Huskies knew they had to battle back every point to win against an aggressive team. Going into the final quarter of regulation it was all tied with 40 points apiece. Both teams battled every trip down the floor. Coming down to two clutch free throws by freshman Chloe Schmitt and an and one by freshman Julia Weber put the
Huskies up by two. With four seconds left the Wildkats dribbled down and had to throw off a quick shot, but hit the front of the rim and fell out to give the Huskies the win. The Huskies moved to 9-2 on the season. The Huskies struggled from the 3 point line but found a way to win by taking it to the hoop and getting defensive stops.
“Girls battled back hard in the middle of the third quarter being down ten,” head coach Jessie VanLeur said. “We are finding ways to win these close, big games and that is great as our season progresses.”
Freshman Julia Weber led the Huskies with 18 points and five rebounds while senior Abigal Arend also pitched in 13 points. Sophomore Kerrigan Schultz put up ten while senior Jada Wethor added six rebounds to help the Huskies pull out the win.
