Huskies Hunt Down the Eagles
By Joslyn Scrank on September 17, 2018
The Bridgewater-Emery Huskies dominated yet again, defeating the Eagles 3-1. Coming into the game, Sept. 6, the Eagles were 1-3 as the Huskies were 3-1. The Huskies faced MCM (loss, 0-3), Howard (win, 3-0), Wessington Springs (win, 3-0) and Menno (win, 3-2) earlier in the season.
“So far in this season, I have noticed the team improving each and every game, physically and mentally. We are passing better and seeing the court more clearly. Our team is really gelling together on the court and in the locker room,” senior Sydney Hoffman said.
The Bridgewater-Emery Huskies defeated the Eagles September 14. The Huskies kept the momentum going for the most part, only letting one set slip away to the Eagles. The Huskies held the Eagles at 12 the first two sets. The third set, the Huskies’ energy disappeared, and the Eagles managed to take the set 20-25. The Huskies shook the third set off, regained their energy and confidence, getting their minds back in the game. The Huskies’ refocus on the game allowed B-E to take the fourth set, finalizing the game.
“I think we played very well against Irene-Wakonda. We got down on ourselves a little bit, but we came back and finished in four sets. We lost our energy, but we regained that starting the fourth set,” senior Katelyn Kotas said.
Stats for the game consisted of Hoffman with 12 kills and four blocks and junior Haley Schulz added seven kills and three blocks. Seniors Abigal Arend and Jada Wethor contributed six and eight kills. Senior Joslyn Schrank pitched in 13 digs and two ace serves. Junior Sophia Potter added 25 assists, while sophomore Kerrigan Schultz helped the Huskies with 13 assists and three aces.
“The first two sets we fought hard. The third set was a bit rough, but we finally composed ourselves, bringing back our intensity in the fourth set to win the match overall,” Potter said.
This game left the Huskies 4-1 and the Eagles 1-4, with the Huskies 2-0 for conference games.
