The Huskies traveled to Mitchell Sat. February 9, to compete in the “DWU Classic”. They were matched up with a team they’ve never played before, Aberdeen Christian They managed to defeat the Knights, pulling ahead in the fourth quarter.
“I thought we started out a little rough. Things were falling for us, we needed to find our groove, settle in, and work together. We finally found our pace in the fourth quarter and pulled away to win the game,” senior Sawyer Schultz said.
To start off the game, senior Sawyer Schultz jumped to allow the Huskies to win first possession of the game. The Knights started out hot, but the Huskies didn’t back down, trailing right behind the Pheasants to end the first quarter 8-13.
“I thought that game really taught us that teamwork is important. We didn’t have great teamwork the first three quarters but figured it out a little more in the fourth, thus being able to pull ahead of the Knights,” senior Jamin Arend said.
The Huskies continued to fight throughout the second quarter, allowing them to stick with the Knights. As the Huskies started to settle down and become more comfortable with the game, they were able to out-score the Knights in the second half, but still trailing as they headed into the locker room 18-21.
Throughout the third and fourth quarter, the Huskies continued to fight. The Knights and Huskies both score 12 points in the third half, thus the Huskies were still down 30-33; however, the Huskies managed to out-score the Knights 12-4 in the fourth quarter. The Huskies took the win over Aberdeen Christian 45-37.
“Going into our post-season, I hope to regain focus of our teamwork and attitudes. Those important to have out on the court. If we do those things, along with the fundamentals, we will be set,” junior Jonah Hofer said.
Stats for the game included Schultz with 21 points and 11 rebounds. Senior Carter Dye added nine points, along with ten rebounds for the Huskies. Junior Chase Arend pitched in eight points for the win over the Knights.
