January 28, 2019
Bridgewater-Emery boys basketball team took on the White River Tigers on Saturday, Jan. 19 at the Corn Palace in Mitchell, SD. The Huskies fell short taking the second loss of the season with a defeat of 56-61.

“We went through a tough stretch in the third quarter,” head coach Scott Schultz said. “We couldn’t get any shots to fall and White River opened up a lead after we were leading at half time. I was happy with the way we battled back at the end of the game giving ourselves a chance to win.”
At the end of the first half, the Huskies led the Tigers 27-26, but the Tigers were too much in the third quarter for the Huskies outscoring them 19-11. White River stretched the lead to 49-40 with six minutes left in the fourth quarter. White River was able to hit a few free throws at the end of the fourth quarter with 27 seconds left to seal the game.
“It was a battle until the end between two good teams, we learned a lot from the loss and hopeful we can build on it at the end of the season,” senior Jamin Arend said. “It was a good one.”
The Huskies were led by the three seniors. Senior Sawyer Schultz with 16 points and 13 rebounds. Senior Carter Dye tossed in 15 points along with 11 rebounds, while Arend added 10 points, eight rebounds, four assists.
The Huskies will take on Vermillion Thursday, Jan. 31 in Emery. The JV game will start at 6:15 p.m. followed by the varsity.
