Bridgewater-Emery Lady Huskies made their way to Menno to take on the Wolves Thursday, Jan. 10, their record being 6-2. The Huskies defeated the Wolves 66-50.
“I thought we started off well but lost our big lead in the second quarter,” senior Jada Wethor said. “We let up and allowed their best player to execute against our defense. However, coming out the second half, we picked up our game and racked up points to help us better our lead.”
The Huskies took the lead to start off the game, ending the first quarter leading by 17, 27-10. The Huskies continued to lead but let up their strong lead, heading into the locker room with leading score of 31-25. Throughout the second half, the Wolves picked up their game but so did the Huskies. The Huskies continued to lead going into the fourth quarter 47-33. The Wolves continued to push the Huskies, but the girls fought back, winning the game 66-50.
“I thought we played aggressively,” sophomore Kerrigan Schultz said, “We kind of let up in the second quarter, but we battled back because we knew it was a big region game. I thought we shared the ball well; however, I don’t think we need to work on cutting down our turnovers. We just need to keep taking one game at a time. Overall, I was pleased with our game.”
Stats for the Huskies included Schultz with 15 points. Senior Abigal Arend added 14 points, while Wethor pitched in a double-double with 12 points and 13 rebounds. Senior Tessa Burnham contributed 11 rebounds to help the Huskies defeat the Wolves.
The Huskies’ win against the Wolves allowed the girls to obtain a 7-2 record.
