Huskie boys headed to Freeman Friday, Jan. 4, to take on the Flyers. The boys won 85-46, almost doubling the Freeman boys’ score for the game to make their record 6-1.
“We came out ready to play,” senior Jamin Arend said. “We wanted to make up for the loss from the past weekend. We need to keep building and take one game at a time.”
To start of the game, Huskies gained possession of the ball. Taking things slower than normal, they eventually picked up to their regular speed of the game. They managed to work well as a team with 19 assists overall. They managed to obtain 12 offensive rebounds and 29 defensively. The boys continued to push throughout the game leading 47-27 at half and capturing the win 85-46.
“We distributed the ball well as a team,” junior Chase Arend said. “We found the open guys, which allowed us to keep pushing points against them.”
Senior Sawyer Schultz contributed 20 points, along with six assists and five blocks. Senior Carter Dye dropped 18 points and pitched in 11 rebounds. Chase Arend added 16 points for and nine rebounds, while Jamin Arend had ten points, eight assists and five rebounds. Junior Jonah Hofer contributed eight points and five rebounds for the win.
“Overall, we probably played our best game of the year against these guys,” Schultz said, “It was a great game, we played well and gelled as a team. Our start was a little slow, but it got better as the game went on.”
The Huskies take on Howard Tigers in a doubleheader Thursday, Jan. 17 in Howard. The junior varsity will play at 4 p.m. and varsity at 6:30 p.m.
