Huskies Capture Second Place at Wagner Tournament

The Junior High volleyball team placed second in the Wagner Tournament, Saturday, Sept. 22,
“I thought we did pretty well today,” seventh grader Sierra Weber said. “We had to work together as a team in order to pull those wins off.”
The girls started the day with a match against Gregory. They came out with intensity and energy, taking the first set 25-13. The girls lost their energy for a little but got back into the groove with game when the Gorillas started creeping up on them. They also won the second set 25-22. Winning the first game put the Huskies in the winner’s bracket.
“It felt good to really get out on top of things and win by a lot the first set,” seventh grader Kennedie Roskens said. “The second set was a little different, but we finally gathered ourselves and finished the game.”
The second game was against the Avon Lady Pirates. It was a close set, but the Huskies took the first set 25-23. The Lady Pirates put on a good fight during the second set, resulting in the Huskies losing the set 18-25. With the help of seventh grader Claire Kayser’s serves, the Huskies beat the Lady Pirates 15-4. The second win for the Huskies put them in the championship game.
The third game determined whether the Huskies received first or second in the Wagner tournament. The Huskies faced the Parker Pheasants in the championship game. After two close sets, 22-25 and 20-25 the Huskies came up short to the Pheasants.
“I think we played very well in the Wagner tournament, but I also think we have many things to improve on for next year,” Kayser said.
The Huskies’ record in the tournament was 2-1, seating the Huskies second in the Wagner tournament.
