Huskies Beat CE-Hawks 3-1
By Joslyn Schrank on October 16, 2018
The Huskies defeated the C-E Hawks in four sets in Colman Tuesday, Oct. 9.
The Huskies battled back and forth in the first set, finally pulling away toward the end. The Huskies finished the first set 25-19.
To start off the second set, the Huskies came out with more energy, hitting the ball more aggressively. This made it hard for the Hawks to keep the ball in system, which resulted in more free balls and pushes over the net to the Huskies.
The Huskies continued to push once they pulled ahead, finishing the second set 25-13.
“I thought we brought our A game besides the couple of spots we got out of system and down on ourselves,” senior Kristin Kotas said. “It was a good away game to win, giving us a decent amount of seed points to help us with our rank.”
The Huskies had first serve in the third set. Again, the Huskies came out a little slow, not staying on the toes, ready for everything. This resulted in the Huskies falling short this set to the CE-Hawks 23-25.
The Huskies started out in serve receive in the fourth set. They came out with more intensity and better movement toward the ball. Their energy level was higher, knowing what they needed to do to win this set. They continued to hit the ball, not sending many free balls over. The Huskies finally pulled ahead before hitting 20 points and then pushed, finishing the set 25-18.
“I think that we had a slow start and our focus wasn’t in the game at first, but then we brought our attention back to the game and left with another win in the books,” senior Vanessa Hofer said.
Senior Sydney Hoffman led the Huskies in kills with ten, followed by nine pitched in from junior Haley Schulz and seven kills contributed by freshman Julia Weber. Junior Sophia Potter added 15 assists, while sophomore Kerrigan Schultz pitched in 14 assists and one ace. Senior Joslyn Schrank led the game defensively with 19 digs, followed by senior Katelyn Kotas with 13 digs.
“We played alright,” Katelyn Kotas said. “We came out a little slow, but we ended up coming back, bringing our ‘A’ game to finish the game with a win.”
The JV team also won in two sets. With this win, the Huskies’ record improved to 14-6.
