Bridgewater-Emery/Ethan Seahawks defeated the Woonsocket/Wessington Springs/Sanborn Central Blackhawks, Thursday Oct. 18 in Bridgewater 46-0 in the first round of 11B playoffs, .
“Thursday’s game was a great way to start our journey to the dome,” sophomore Rylee Schultz said. “We played a great game with limited penalties than we had in previous games. We have to hold our heads high and focus on one thing: football.”
To start the game, the Seahawks kicked off. The Seahawks managed to hold the Blackhawks from getting a first down, allowing the Seahawks to score a touchdown on a 38-yard run by senior running back Jamin Arend. The PAT by junior quarterback Brady Hawkins was good, making the score 7-0. Defensively, BEE held the Blackhawks to three and out and went on to score on a 25-yard pass from Hawkins to senior wide receiver Sawyer Schultz. PAT by Hawkins was good. The first quarter score was 14-0 in favor of the Seahawks.
In the second quarter, the Seahawks scored another four touchdowns, still holding the Blackhawks to zero. Junior Jonah Hofer scored on a pass play from Hawkins for 23 yards, PAT no good. Arend also scored on a 23-yard pass from Hawkins, the two-point conversion was no good. Arend scored on a two yard run and Hofer scored on a 12-yard pass. PAT for both touchdowns were good by Hawkins. The score going into halftime was 40-0.
The Seahawks received the ball to start the third quarter. The Seahawks scored on a three-yard run by junior Grant Andrews, PAT was no good. BEE defense held the Blackhawks scoreless in the third quarter. The Seahawks continued to play “Seahawk” defense, making it very hard for the Blackhawks to maneuver on the field. To end the game, the score was 46-0.
“We played well as a team,” senior Jevin Eddy said. “We moved the ball every drive on offense, and our defense stopped everything they threw at us. Our defense needs to stay on top holding our opponents to limited yards.”
Stats for the game consisted of Arend with 50 rushing yards and two touchdowns. Hawkins added 48 yards rushing, was 12 of 15 for 223 yards passing, threw four touchdowns and had nine tackles. Andrews rushed 36 yards and added a touchdown. Senior Carter Dye racked up 12 tackles, while junior Colby Weber and Rylee Schultz pitched in seven tackles each.
“We played well and everyone did their jobs,” senior Sawyer Schultz sad. “I am excited as I look ahead to the game on
Thursday. We know our end goal and know we just have to take one game at a time, being well prepared for anything they bring our way.”
With the win, the Seahawks advance to the quarterfinals and improved to an 8-1 record.
