Fourth Grade Takes on Water Festival
March 19, 2019
Bridgewater-Emery fourth grade class took a field trip to Sioux Falls to enjoy a day off of school, but still have an educational day learning about water Wednesday, March 13.
The Sioux Empire Water Festival is an educational event where area children learn about water. This precious resource is a central factor in all aspects of our lives. The goal of the festival is to increase awareness of the many uses of water and to preserve its quality for future generations.
Students had the privilege of traveling to the University of Sioux Falls campus to learn and participate in different activities involving water. They rotated through different sessions to learn about different water topics. One session this year was Panning for Gold, put on by the SD Geological Survey, where the students were able to “pan for gold.” Another session was The Incredible Journey, teaching about how water changes stages and moves across the globes, put on by the Sioux Empire Water Festival. Also put on by the Sioux Empire Water Festival was Where in the World.
Four students out of the fourth-grade class were chosen to be on the Quiz Bowl team. The students who made up the team were Ayden O’Keefe, Maci Weber, Alaina Golder, and Lily Hilton. The Quiz Bowl team competed against Harvey Dunn, an elementary school in Sioux Falls, and dominated against them, winning 12-2.
