Farm Safety Camp
By ????? on October 16, 2018
Bridgewater-Emery FFA chapter held a Farm Safety Camp for the 3rd-grade class, Friday, Oct. 12 at 2 p.m. The camp is to inform young students about the different dangers there are on a farm and how to keep themselves and others safe.
The FFA members that volunteered to help were seniors Jevin Eddy, Bella Lehrman and Sarah Schultz; juniors Shelby Barnhouse, Jasmine Tschetter and Colby Weber; sophomores Marah Hofer, Morgan Terveen and Johanna Tusha; freshman Grace DiGiovanni, Jackson Harberts, Julie Jaeger and Cortney Kayser.
To split the students into their groups they got a color on the workbook and each leader had a piece of paper that was the same color as the booklet. Some of the stations that were included in the camp were Grain Bin Safety, Tractor, ATV & Bike Safety, Hand Washing & Food Safety, Model Farm, Eye Safety and Animal Safety.
At the stations the kids listen to the FFA member explain the station then they have an activity that they can do until it was time to switch to the next station. To go along with the stations there was a booklet that each child got that had a workbook page on what they learned. Some of the stations had interactive activities such as a grain bin pull where the kids got to see how fast a toy person can get sucked down into the grain when it is getting unloaded. At the animal safety station, there were kittens that the kids could pet and to help them learn how to properly hold and handle kittens.
The third-grade class had many questions and the chapter plans on doing the camp again next year.
