Dome Sweet Dome

November 14, 2018
Bridgewater-Emery/Ethan Seahawks defeated the Mount Vernon/Plankinton Titans 41-6 Friday, Nov. 2. This win gave them the opportunity to head back to the Dakota Dome.

“I think we played well on both offense and defense,” senior  lineman Carter Dye said. “I am excited to go back to the dome and get another chance on Sioux Falls Christian.”

BEE started off strong by scoring two touchdowns in the first quarter. Senior Jamin Arend had a one-yard run, and junior Brady Hawkins also contributed a one-yard run. The PAT’s from Hawkins were good to make the score 14-0 at the end of the first quarter.

There was no looking back for the Seahawks after another scoring play from Hawkins to senior Sawyer Schultz was good for a 15-yard pass. Hawkins kept the Seahawks going with a run of 34 yards. Hawkins and Schultz connected again for a 20 yard pass and a touchdown. The PAT’s were good to make the score 35-0 going into half-time, making it difficult for the MVP Titans to get started.

It was all Seahawks in the third quarter with Arend bringing in a run of four yards. In the fourth quarter senior Weston Tobin of MVP broke away from the Seahawks defense to score a 56 yard touchdown. That was all the BEE defense was going to allow.

“We focused all week on  stopping their run,” head coach Jeff VanLeur said. “Our defensive line did a great job  of making big stops up front . I was proud of our offense as well; we captalized on their turnovers and made big plays all game long.”

Hawkins led the Seahawks with 165 yards passing on 10 of 14 complete.  Arend rushed for 95 yards on 30 carries with two touchdowns. Junior Jonah Hofer received 101 yards on four passes.  Dye also pitched in 10 tackles on defense.

“I thought we played a great game,” Schultz said. “We held Hastings to only 29 yards and didn’t let him run all over us. I am excited to get to play in another state championship, hoping we can get it this year.”

For the Titans, Tobin ran for 51 yards on three carries and one touchdown, while Hayden Haak rushed for 50 yards on nine carries.

With the victory, the Seahawks’ record improved to 10-1 and will play in the championship two consecutive years.
