Dances of the Decades
April 16, 2019
Saturday, April 6, the students of the Bridgewater-Emery Choir put on a show titled “Dances of the Decades,” along with a dinner and silent auction beforehand. This show was put on to try and raise money for some students heading to New York this summer.
“I am excited to have the opportunity to attend New York this summer,” senior Vanessa Hofer said. I think this is a rare opportunity, and I am we could fundraise in a fun, unique way by hosting this show.
The students traveling to New York this summer are singing at Carnegie Hall. About half of the choir will be flying to New York June 7 to June 10. The students are selling Krispy Kreme donuts until April 24th to raise money for the trip, so feel free to contact any of the students going to New York if you are interested.
“I am very proud of each and every one of these students and how hard they worked to make this possible,” choir director Tracy Gilliland said. “I am also very pleased with the outcome. Thank you to everyone who made this possible.”
For the 1920s, juniors Katrina Weber and Lindsey Weeldreyer, along with Mercedes Mesman, danced to “Puttin’ on the Ritz.” For the 1930s, the choir sang “Over the Rainbow” and for the 1940s, sophomores Katrina VanSickle and Hannah Thompson, along with freshman Joe Kirby and Koby Kayser, danced to “Cindy.” For the 1950s, freshman girls Kaitlyn Roskens, Jordyn Vinz, Sara Hofer and Taylor Schallenkamp danced to “Why Do Fools Fall in Love.” “The Impossible Dream” was sung for the 1960s and danced to by sophomores Michael and Ashley Waldner and freshman Ayriss Andrews, Braxton Longe, Jared Vinz and Sophia Robocker. For the 1970s, seniors Mckayla Kirby and Joslyn Schrank, junior Jonah Hofer and sophomores Brock Hofer, Connor Kerkhove and Keesha Letcher danced to “You’re the One That I Want.” For the 1980s, senior girls Abigal Arend and Tessa Burnham danced to “I’m so Excited.” For the 1990s, sophomores Rylee Schultz, Brandon Jansen and Brooks Jansen danced to “Sold.” Sophomore Morgan Terveen, along with seniors Sarah Schultz and Taylor Clark danced to “Backwards” for the 2000s. For the 2010s, sophomores Bodie Burnham, Shaylee Longe, Tyler Kjetland and Johanna Tusha, Vanessa Hofer, and freshman Hunter Bailey and Camden Dye performed to “Cups—When I’m Gone.”
“I enjoyed dancing to the song ‘Sold.’ That is more my style of music, and I’m glad we could put on a show for our community,” Rylee Schultz said.
The choir is selling Krispy Kreme donuts to raise money. They will be selling until Wednesday, April 24 and will be delivered Saturday, April 27.
