B-E Huskies volleyball team won the Thunder Nation tournament, Saturday, Oct. 13 at Dakota Christian.
The Huskies went 4-0 in pool play defeating Menno (2-0), Marty (2-0), Wessington Springs (2-1) and Corsica Stickney (2-0), which advanced them to the championship.
“We had a goal of coming here and winning the tournament and we did just that,” senior Jada Wethor said. “I am super proud of how we played. It was a really fun and an intense game. I can’t wait to see what happens in the postseason.”
In the championship, the Huskies took on the Andes Central-Dakota Christian Thunder. It was a battle point for point until the Thunder took a jump on the lead pushing to point 23. The Huskies were able to make some aggressive plays which got AC/DC scrambling and out of system. The Huskies took advantage and knew that if they wanted to win the tournament they had to go. B-E pushed from a seven-point deficit to come back and win the first set of the championship match 26-24.
The Huskies were all fired up and had that intensity on their side. B-E came out in set two and jumped to a 12-2 lead. The Huskies never looked back or doubted each other which enabled them to pull away with a 25-18 championship win.
In the championship game, senior Sydney Hoffman paced the Huskies with nine kills. Setters junior Sophia Potter and sophomore Kerrigan Schultz each added 12 assists and six digs respectively. Senior Joslyn Schrank tossed in 15 digs and two aces, while Schultz also added two aces.
“We started off a little rough at the beginning from being in a gym for 10 hours but we worked really well together as a team and every girl knew what they had to do for us to get the win,” Potter said.
With the five wins, the Huskies improved their record to 18-6.
