By Kerrigan Schultz on February 4, 2019
Bridgewater-Emery boys and girls basketball team took on the Hanson Beavers Friday, Jan. 25. Both teams pulled out wins. The boys won 62-52, while the girls won 56-52.

The boys started out the night battling point for point with the Beavers going into halftime with a lead of 35-24. The Huskies continued to have a strong performance coming out into the second half, but the Beavers stayed with until the Huskies pulled away with three minutes left in the fourth quarter to surge to a victory.

“It was a slow start and they are an aggressive team,” senior Sawyer Schultz said. “I thought we played well as a team and shared the ball well. We need to keep improving and playing our style of play.”

Sawyer Schultz led the Huskies with 22 points and pulling down nine boards while junior Chase Arend scored 14 along. Junior Jonah Hofer and senior Carter Dye posted nine points. Dye also contributed eight rebounds.

The girls started out the night with a rough start with the Beavers knocking down the first three, three-point shots they took. The Huskies had to step up the defense against a good team in order to get a win. The Huskies started getting stops on defense which made the offense start going. The Huskies went into halftime down 25-28. Wanting to keep a strong season and game going the Huskies came out stronger playing better defense and getting better shots. The BE girls flipped a four-point third quarter deficit into a win.

“I thought that we played very well,” senior Abigal Arend said. “We played well as a team. We did the little things right, and it felt good to beat them after such a long time.”

Arend led the scoring with 15 points, while Junior Kennedee Weber tossed in 12 points and five rebounds. Senior Tessa Burnham also helped the Huskies scoring 10 points.

The B-E boys improved their overall record to 10-2 and conference record to 5-0. With the victory, the B-E girls are now 12-2 and 5-1 in the conference
