Bridgewater-Emery Plays in Double Header Against Gregory

Bridgewater-Emery basketball took to the Corn Palace in Mitchell Saturday, Feb. 2 for a doubleheader against Gregory. The B-E girls won first 78-57, and the B-E boys followed with another win 62-35.
“It was fun to play in the Corn Palace again,” senior Carter Dye said. “It’s a great atmosphere.”
The girls’ team began the varsity games. After losing the jump, B-E fired back to stay on top finishing the first half 43-32. The lead grew further in the second half to end the game 78-57 in favor of the Huskies.
Senior Abigal Arend and freshman Julia Weber led the team together with 30 points each. Junior Kennedee Weber dished in eight points, six rebounds, three steals and one block. Sophomore Kerrigan Schultz also added eight points, five rebounds and two steals. Overall, the B-E girls’ team had 36 rebounds, three blocks and 13 steals.
“We played really aggressive, and we continue to improve with each and every game leading up to region play,” senior Jada Wethor said. “I am really excited to see how we compete and place when that time arrives. We have come so far just this season to place us second in our region as of now.”
The boys’ team continued the night in the Corn Palace. The game began slow ending the first half 25-13 for the Huskies. The second half picked up to end the game with a Huskie win 62-35. After this win, the B-E Huskie boys held a record of 13-3, ranking first in the region. Dye led the team with 19 points, nine rebounds and six steals. Senior Jamin Arend contributed 17 points, and senior Sawyer Schultz added 15 points. Junior Chase Arend also dished in six points, six rebounds and four steals. Overall, the B-E boys’ team had 36 rebounds and 14 steals.
After this win, the B-E Huskies girls held a record of 14-2, ranking second in the region. The B-E boys improved to 13-3, ranking first in the region.
