Author: Joey Graceffa

Rowan sacrificed her life so her brother could live his to the fullest. In a world called Eden, strict population control prevents anyone from having a second child. Rowan was the second child of a set of twins whose parents decided to keep them both.
She is forced to hide away in their house- never to see the outside. Because Rowan is illegal and kept secret, she was never registered for the eye implants every Eden citizen receives making her kaleidoscope eyes a dangerous give-away. Soon, however, through a reckless night of escape, Rowan discovers an entire underground civilization of second children. After Rowan learned about the second child civilization, she began to find many new dangerous secrets. These secrets motivate her to try and save not only the people she loves, but also the people of Eden.
Many people only know Joey Graceffa from his internet fame as a YouTuber. He has over a billion viewers with both of his channels. While “Children of Eden” is his first Young Adult book, he also published a memoir in 2015 as well as “Elites of Eden” which is a sequel to “Children of Eden”. All three of his books have received a staggering amount of praise. Both his memoir and “Children of Eden” have been titled New York Best Seller.
This book has all the makings of a Young Adult dystopian novel. With its perfect utopia crumbling and a courageous heroine, this book is the perfect type of futuristic book that is loved by the teenage population. However, this book has a uniqueness that is interesting to all that pick it up. Graceffa wove an intricate story that, while has many previously used plot devices, is unexpected and well-written.
In my opinion, this book is a must-read to anyone who loves modern Young Adult fantasy. It has many good morals including such a strong female main character, and the idea to stand up for what you believe in.
Overall, I recommend this book to all teenagers. While this book’s original recognition may have come simply from the author’s reputation, I believe that this book deserved all the fame. It reels the reader in with stunning plot twists and dialogue, just to cut it off with a cliff-hanger, leaving the reader wanting more.
