B-E School Gets in the Spirit with a Homecoming Parade
By Sydney Hoffman on October 3, 2018
The annual homecoming parade at B-E took place in Bridgewater Friday, Sept. 21.
Before the parade, a community meal was provided at the Bridgewater school gym served by B-E students and staff. After the community was fed, floats and entries lined up to parade around main street as spectators watched.
Each year, student council picks a homecoming theme in which the floats will resemble. This year’s theme was picked as “TV shows”. Each class voted on a specific TV show that they would decorate their float as. Throughout homecoming week, classes begin making posters and other décor, and then on Friday morning, the class assembles it on to the trailer or truck.
“My favorite part about homecoming is the float building throughout the week,” senior McKayla Kirby said. “It gives our class a chance to bond and be creative.”
For students, it becomes a competition between grades. The sophomore class won Grand Marshal with their float “Survivor.” The junior class followed with their first place originality float, “The Office.” The senior class took second place originality with their “SpongeBob SquarePants” float. The fourth-grade class received first place beauty with their “Teen Titan’s Go” float and kindergarten received second place beauty for their “Paw Patrol” float.
“The girls worked hard throughout the week making the posters, and when it came to putting it altogether, it was sort of chaotic but it turned out really spectacular and I guess the judges agreed,” sophomore Sara Hofer said.
Leading the parade were freshmen Jared Vinz and Joe Kirby with the American and state flags. Following them were the Bridgewater and Emery Fire Departments. Next in line were the Grand Marshals, Ed and Barb Meyer of Bridgewater and Craig and Peggy Plagmann of Emery, and behind them were the B-E homecoming royalty King Sawyer Schultz and Queen Joslyn Schrank.
After the king and queen, these entries went next in the following order: senior class float, B-E marching band, junior float, Hofer Physical Therapy, Kindergarten’s float “Paw Patrol,” first grade’s float “Minute to Win It,” Bridgewater Fire Department’s second entry, sophomore class float, Fisk Heating and Cooling, Emery Fire Department’s second entry, second grade’s float “Dancing With the Stars”, Emery class of 1963, Learning Bridge Daycare, third grade’s float “America’s Got Talent,” freshmen class float, Kyle Schoenfish as district 19 representative, Schulz Electric, eighth grade’s float “Scooby Doo,” fourth grade class float, sixth grade’s float “Fast and Loud,” Make It My Design, Emery Fire Department’s third entry, fifth grade’s float “Cops,” seventh grade’s float “The Big Bang Theory,” Tim Trautmann with a small mower, CMC Excavation, Adam Jaeger with a 1951
John Deere 6 tractor, Jayke Glanzer with a 40:20 John Deere tractor, Triotel, Sioux Nation, Nutrien Ag Solutions and Potter Tire and Service.
“Despite the cold weather, I still enjoyed preparing the float with my boys, and I am sad that it will be my last one,” senior Kinzer Glanzer said.
Later that night, the Seahawks played the Flandreau Fliers defeating them 55-6.
