B-E High School Students Give Back to Communities
By Sydney Hoffman on March 25, 2019
Senior Sarah Schultz planned and implemented a service project day March 22 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. This project was for Sarah’s senior experience.
“I wanted to do a day of service because I wanted to bring back to our local FFA chapter and town something that I learned at the National FFA Convention and Expo two years ago. Service is important to me because it’s a way for us to help out those in need. I hope the high school students continue to serve after participating in my project because of how important it is to give back to those in our community who have helped support us and the school,” Sarah said.
B-E high school students were spread out amongst the following projects areas: playing bingo with the residents at the Diamond Care Center, cleaning the Senior Center in Emery, picking up garbage around Emery and Bridgewater, washing Emery city vehicles, organizing and setting up equipment at the Bridgewater and Emery daycares, cleaning the Emery Hall basement, assisting Kurt Potter at Potter Tire and Service, making and decorating sugar cookies for teacher appreciation week coming up soon, cleaning Emery city office and cleaning the Bridgewater fire trucks.
“I think Sarah’s project was a huge success and it positively impacted our community. My group went to the Emery Senior Center to clean it top to bottom, inside and out, since a large majority of the people who volunteer and eat there are unable to. We were able to talk with and receive further instructions from two ladies there and they said it was the cleanest they’ve seen it in years. I believe that community service is so important in the growth of young people. By practicing giving back at a younger age, it really helps people understand how lucky they are to have what they do and show their appreciation towards others. I think projects like this are awesome, and servant leadership is a great skill to instill,” senior Kristin Kotas said.
All senior experiences will be presented and open to the public during the senior expo April 15 from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. This is a practice for their jury day April 17.
